Singapore's 2027 public holidays are gazetted, and the calendar is meaner than 2026's. Four of them fall on a Friday or a Monday, which is a long weekend with no leave taken, and Chinese New Year adds a fifth for anyone whose rest day is a Sunday. Two land on a Saturday, where the Employment Act gives you a day off or an extra day's pay rather than a three-day break. In 2026 six holidays produced a long weekend and only one fell on a Saturday.

The dates below are the ones published by the Ministry of Manpower, read on 9 September 2026.

Where one day of leave buys the most

Two Thursdays do the heavy lifting. Taking the Friday after Vesak Day gives 20 to 23 May off, and taking the Friday after Deepavali gives 28 to 31 October. One day of annual leave, four days away, twice in the year.

Hari Raya Puasa on Wednesday 10 March is the expensive one. Two days of leave either side turn it into five, and there is no cheaper way to make it work.

May 2027 is unusually dense. Three holidays fall inside it: Labour Day on the Saturday, Hari Raya Haji on Monday 17 May and Vesak Day on Thursday 20 May. With the Monday and the Thursday already off, three days of leave on the Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday between them covers 15 to 23 May, nine days in a row.

What happens when a holiday lands on a weekend

The two rules are different, and they are the reason a Saturday holiday feels like a loss:

  • On a rest day, usually Sunday: the following working day becomes a paid public holiday. That is how Chinese New Year on Saturday and Sunday produces a holiday on Monday 8 February.
  • On a non-working day, usually Saturday in a five-day week: the Employment Act entitles you to another day off or one extra day's salary in lieu. Which of the two is your employer's call, not yours.

So Labour Day and Christmas Day in 2027 still cost your employer a day, they just do not hand you a three-day weekend.

How 2027 compares with 2026

20262027

Holidays on a Sunday, giving a Monday31
Long weekends with no leave taken65
Holidays lost to a Saturday12

2026 was a good year for this by accident: Vesak Day, National Day and Deepavali all fell on a Sunday, and each pushed a holiday onto the Monday. That does not repeat in 2027.

What is left of 2026

Two holidays remain this year. Deepavali on Sunday 8 November, with Monday 9 November a public holiday if your rest day falls on the Sunday, and Christmas Day on Friday 25 December, which closes the year with a long weekend.

What actually changes on a public holiday

ERP charges nothing. There are no ERP charges on Sundays or on any public holiday, so a holiday drive through town is free of gantry charges. Our guide to ERP rates and timings has the weekday figures.

The eve is the part people miss. ERP stops operating at 1pm on the eve of a major public holiday, which makes an early-afternoon start out of the CBD cheaper than usual.

Hawker centres keep their own calendar. Closures are set by quarterly spring cleaning rather than by the holidays, and the 2026 closure schedule lists the dates centre by centre.

Singapore public holidays 2027: quick questions

How many public holidays does Singapore have in 2027?

Ten gazetted holidays across eleven days, because Chinese New Year covers two. A Monday in lieu on 8 February applies where the rest day falls on Sunday 7 February.

When is Chinese New Year 2027?

Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 February. Monday 8 February is a public holiday if your rest day falls on 7 February, which for a standard five-day week it does.

Which 2027 public holidays give a long weekend?

Four outright: New Year's Day on Friday 1 January, Good Friday on 26 March, Hari Raya Haji on Monday 17 May and National Day on Monday 9 August. Chinese New Year makes a fifth for anyone whose rest day falls on Sunday 7 February, because that pushes a holiday onto Monday 8 February.

What happens if a public holiday falls on a Saturday?

The Employment Act treats it as falling on a non-working day, so you are entitled to another day off or one extra day's salary in lieu. Labour Day and Christmas Day both do this in 2027.

What happens if a public holiday falls on a Sunday?

If it falls on your rest day, the following working day becomes a paid public holiday. That is the rule behind the Monday 8 February holiday after Chinese New Year.

When is Hari Raya Puasa 2027?

Wednesday 10 March. It sits in the middle of the week, so a longer break costs two days of leave rather than one.

Is there ERP on a public holiday?

No. ERP charges nothing on Sundays or public holidays, and it stops operating at 1pm on the eve of a major public holiday.

When are the 2027 school holidays?

The Ministry of Education sets those separately from the gazetted public holidays, and the two calendars do not line up. The dates above are the public holidays only.
