Humble Origins is an all-day cafe on Joo Chiat Road serving specialty coffee and tea alongside freshly baked pastries, croissants, wholemeal sandwiches and other comfort food. A sticky pecan cinnamon bun runs about $5.50.
The draw is the coffee: they pour Myanmar specialty coffee sourced from producers in the Shan Hills, and also work with Glasshouse on their partnered producers. Beans are sold for home brewing. The owners are a couple who spent over nine years in Myanmar working with smallholder farmers on yields and returns, which is where the sourcing comes from.
Worth it for: a quiet Joo Chiat coffee and a bake, or picking up Myanmar single-origin beans to brew at home, rather than a full meal out.
Where: 475 Joo Chiat Rd, #01, Singapore 427682. Hours: Wednesday to Monday, 8.30am to 5.30pm; closed Tuesday. Call +65 8719 0191, or check their Instagram.
