Education and development of a new generation of sharp, competent young persons with socially minded attitudes that are consistent with Singaporean society are the goals of academics, customs education, and extracurricular activities.

Testimonial

“Seems good, the current Prime Minister of Singapore, Mr Lee Hsien Loong, is an alumni here. Good multicultural mix, which might be better than other SAP schools that are quite focused on promoting the Chinese culture and language and sometimes China history and culture which isn’t appropriate for Singaporean context (e.g. the school opposite).”

Methodist Reverend William Fitzjames Oldham founded the Anglo Chinese School (ACS), as it is known today, on March 1, 1886, with the goal of educating young people for God and humanity so that they will always serve society. The school opened with 13 Chinese merchants’ children being taught English and Chinese.

ACS started with a favorable invitation to Reverend Oldham to launch a mission in Southeast Asia. There were few educational opportunities for the many children living in Singapore’s city port at that time.

In the long run, the community acknowledged its high level of education. As the school’s enrollment kept growing, more classroom space had become necessary, urging the institution to resettle to a purpose-built schoolhouse on Coleman Street.

Testimonial

“Really good at dealing with racial riots, as a Aquamanian I have certain conditions that must be met and this school caters for me perfectly. Me and fellow pupils – all except Jeff – made me feel at home. We all had devious hands, and explored the schools dark and moist areas. My only gripe, is I went swimming for five minutes then I realised there wasn’t any water, I was swimming in baked beans and chlorine. The 3Pi/10 recommend”

On February 7, 1885, Methodist missionary William Oldham, together with other missionaries from the same church, arrived in Singapore. He established the Anglo Chinese Junior College (ACJC), one of the seven academic institutions in the ACS Family of Schools.

Reverend Oldham was invited to the Celestial Reasoning Association by a Chinese Methodist Church member. The organization was started by Mr. Tan Keong Saik with the goal of improving English language instruction. Reverend Oldham was given the opportunity to present an astronomy lecture. The company executives were so moved by Reverend Oldham’s speech performance that they eventually asked him to tutor them in the language.

Following the establishment of the institution at 70 Amoy Street, the Anglo Chinese School was established in March 1886 with financial support from members of the association. 13 Chinese boys who were all the sons of businessmen who had attended Reverend Oldham’s speech made up the first group of students.

After eight months, the school moved to larger quarters on Coleman Street in November 1886. The institution’s higher standards were relocated to Cairnhill Road starting in 1928 and stayed there for ten years. In 1950, the ACS Secondary School, which had previously been located on Queen Street, relocated to Barker Road and started accepting female students to the brand-new Post School Certificate Classes.

The Integrated Programme is offered at Dunman High School (DHS), an independent, coeducational secondary school in Singapore. It has consistently topped the rankings of coeducational institutions in the country.

DHS is formerly known as Dunman Government Chinese Middle School. In 1979, Dunman High School was shortlisted as one of the nine secondary Special Assistance Plan (SAP) schools. The institution changed its name to Dunman High School and started providing primary-level instruction in both English and Chinese.

DHS was chosen to carry out the program for musically gifted students when the MOE introduced the Music Elective Programme (MEP) in 1982.

The Dunman High Programme (DHP), a modified version of the Integrated Program, has been used by the school since 2005 to allow all students to skip the O Level tests and begin studying for the A Levels straight away.

The DHP students consistently outperformed their peers in the GCE A level Examinations, representing their school with pride. Given that the DHP allows students to skip the GCE O level tests and take the A level after six years, it was probably a sign of the DHP’s intellectual rigour.

Although the term’s origins are obscure, it has come to signify the spirit of Singapore’s never-ending pursuit of progress to modern Singaporeans. The tools needed to build their own economy were forged in a furnace similar to Jurong. Their fledgling nation’s progress toward independence was propelled by Jurong.

Pioneer attaches importance to those whose bold and entrepreneurial lifestyles contributed to the realization of lofty goals. It honors those who invented new strategies for overcoming challenges in unexplored territory during trying unpredictable times.

Together, the two words celebrate lofty ideals and heroic deeds in a way that is almost trivially true. The character of the college was thus established.

They understood that Jurong and Pioneer take great pride in their inclusive cultures and welcoming of students who want to push the limits set by their early experiences, which laid the foundation for this legendary undertaking. Both institutions are dedicated to developing students who value compassion and perseverance so they can be active learners and accountable neighborhood residents. They put a lot of effort into providing a strong and engaging curriculum that will help their students advance academically.

They strive to give their students a comprehensive learning environment by fusing the foundation of moral values ingrained in them since childhood with the excellent practices carried out by their instructors, who are dedicated to being uplifting and life-giving.

Outram Institute (OI) and Jurong Institute (JI) were merged in 2004 to form Singapore’s Millennia Institute (MI), which is now the only Centralized Institute in Singapore.

The only institution that offers an “A Level” business stream, which covers subjects like Business Management and the Principles of Accounting, is MI.

Along with the ‘A Level coursework,’ MI also aspires to holistically develop students through initiatives like Education and Career Guidance, Character and Citizenship Education, Leadership Development, Innovation and Enterprise, and SkillsFuture. Students from different backgrounds can interact with one another through international exchange programs.

The GCE ‘A Level program at TMI is well-paced, with a strong emphasis on classroom instruction and close teacher-student interaction. In the second and third years of study, there are typically 26 students per class.

The Angklung Kulintang Ensemble is just one example of the variety of extracurricular activities offered by MI that are not offered by other pre-university institutions. The abundance of sports facilities accessible for students at MI includes a sports complex with a track for running and a hockey rink made of artificial turf.

For the benefit of students, parents, and staff as well as the welfare of the institution’s family, MI has also built a strong parent support network, worked with the Institute Advisory Committee and developed a Year Head system.
